2 Line Corded Telephone Quick Reference Guide
This guide tells you how to quickly install and operate your new telephone. For more detailed instructions, please refer to your Owner's Manual.
Important Notice
Your Conairphone will operate on all systems, true tone or rotary.
1. If your home is wired for Rotary service, move the Tone/Pulse switch to Pulse position (P).
2. If your home is wired for Tone service, move the switch to the Tone position (T).
3. If you are unsure of the type of service you have, position Tone/Pulse switch to Tone (T).
If dialing cannot be done, set to Pulse (P).
Installation
Coil Cord Connection
Insert coil cord into modular jack located on the side or bottom of the base. Connect the other end into the modular jack located on the handset.
Line Cord Connection
To use both lines of a two-line telephone, your telephone company must provide two telephone numbers. If you have only one telephone number, your telephone company can install another line.
For One Two Line Jack (RJ14C)
Insert one plug of the 4-pin fully modular line cord into the wall jack, making sure it snaps
firmly in place. Insert the other plug of the 4-pin line cord into the telephone jack marked
"Line 1 + 2".
For Two Single Line Jacks (RJ11C)
For two single line jacks, two separate line cords are needed for the connection.
Connect the 4 pin line cord to the first telephone wall jack. Connect the other end of the
4-pin line cord into the telephone jack marked "Line 1 + 2". Connect the 2-pin fully modular
line cord to the second wall jack and plug the other end of the line cord into the telephone
jack marked "Line 2".
Wall Mount
Connect one modular plug of the short line cord into the modular jack located on the bottom of the telephone. Insert the other modular plug into the wall jack, making sure it snaps in place. Position the wall mount slots on the bottom of the base over the two studs of the wall plate.
Pull down and lock in place.
Preparation
Four AAA Alkaline batteries (not included) need to be installed in the compartment located
on the bottom of the phone. Battery power is used to support the hold and line select functions. NOTE: Your Conairphone will place and receive calls normally without batteries. However,
to use the hold function and line status indication features, batteries must be installed.
Installing the Batteries
Open the battery door and snap the four AAA Alkaline batteries in place (ensure that polarity
is correct). Close the battery door and plug in the line cord to resume telephone service.
Operation
Receiving a Call
1. When your phone rings, the green LED will flash rapidly, indicating a call is coming in. Pick
up the handset and press the key (Line 1 or Line 2) that is flashing rapidly. The green
LED will be lit solid to indicate that the line is in use. NOTE: If the line status LED is not lit
or is dimly lit, please install fresh batteries.
2. Hang up the handset to release the telephone line when the conversation is completed.
Dialing a Call
NOTE: Before dialing, make sure the Tone/Pulse switch is correctly positioned for your type
of service.
1. Pick up the handset and press the Line 1 or Line 2 key for the line you wish to access.
2. Wait for a dial tone, then press the dialing keys for the number desired. Your Conairphone,
in pulse setting, uses electronic pulses to simulate dialing. You might hear pulsing for a
second or two after the last button has been pressed.
Key Features
Last Number Redial
Your Conairphone remembers the last number dialed. If the number you dial is busy or not being answered, hang up. To automatically redial the last number, press the REDIAL button. NOTE: You can redial the same number as many times as needed. However, once you dial another number, the previous number is erased.
Lighted Dial
Your Conairphone features a lighted keypad for dialing in a darkened room.
Ringer Off/Low/High
Your Conairphone features a harmonic tone ringer. When you don't want to be disturbed, slide the switch to the "Off" position. You can still make outgoing calls without being disturbed by incoming calls. Also, the ringer can be adjusted to a soft (low) or a loud (high) sound level.
Distinctive Rings
Your Conairphone features two distinct rings, one for each line (1 and 2).
Receiver Volume Control
This feature allows you to adjust your handset volume from normal to high, for a more comfortable listening level.
Timed Flash Function
The FLASH button can be used to retrieve a new dial tone after ending a call.
NOTE: The FLASH button is also used with special telephone services such as call waiting
and three party calling. Press the FLASH button briefly, release and perform the custom call procedure.
Hold
To put a call on hold, press the HOLD button that corresponds to the line you're using and place the telephone handset onto the base. The red LED of the corresponding HOLD button will
light while the call is on hold. To resume your conversation, pick up the handset or pick up an extension. Hold status will automatically release. Once the conversation is complete, hang up as you would a basic phone.
Line Status
Your Conairphone has line status indication that will tell you if someone is using Line 1 or Line 2 from an extension phone. Before placing a call, look at the green line status LED. If the LED is lit solid, the line is in use. NOTE: Four AAA alkaline batteries (not included) must be installed for this feature to function. Refer to the battery installation section.
Memory
Your Conairphone is equipped with memory for programming your most frequently dialed telephone numbers. You can store up to 16 digits in each key (0-9).
To Program Memory Numbers
1. Lift the handset (releasing hook switch).
2. Press and release the STORE button.
3. Press the keys for the telephone number you wish to store.
4. Press and release the STORE button again.
5. Press the keypad number (0-9) where you want the telephone number stored.
6. Your number is now stored.
7. To change a stored number, repeat the same process. The new number will store over
the previously stored number.
A memory Index card is provided for you to write down the person's name next to the corresponding keypad number.
To Retrieve Memory Numbers
Pick up the handset; press the MEMORY button and then press the keypad number (0-9)
which stores the telephone number you want to dial. Your call will be automatically dialed.
Trouble Shooting Guide
Problem: No dial tone
Check all modular plugs to be sure they are firmly in place.
Are the cords damaged in any way?
Try another phone jack. If your Conairphone works on another jack, there may be a
problem with your wiring.
Problem: I hear my phone dialing, but I can not get past the dial tone.
Check the Tone/Pulse switch. If positioned in Tone (T) mode, switch to Pulse (P). You may
have pulse dialing service.
Problem: Phone does not ring.
Is the ringer switch set to the "Off" position?
How many extensions are connected to your line? If more than five telephones are installed
on the same line, you may need to contact your local telephone company to determine the
maximum number of extensions for your calling area.
Problem: The sound volume is too low.
Is another extension off hook? If so, hang up the extension.
Problem: Memory dialing does not work.
Carefully review STORE sequence and reenter your programmed number.
Did you remember to pick up the handset when programming memory?
Problem: The hold function and/or line status function does not work.
Did you remember to install four AAA alkaline batteries?
If batteries are installed, try replacing them with four fresh AAA alkaline batteries.
Problem: The line 2 indicator is constantly lit solid.
Only a single line jack is connected. You must have 2-line service (2 separate telephone
numbers) to use the line 1 and line 2 functions. Contact your local telephone company to
have them install another line.
