TAD3214 Quick Reference Guide

To Install

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before the Caller ID setup has been completed, do not connect the line cord to the wall outlet and do not record your outgoing announcement.

1. Connect the coiled cord to the jacks in the handset and the bottom of the base.
2. Connect the AC adapter into back of your unit and a 120-volt outlet.
3. Insert one 9-volt backup alkaline battery (not included) into battery compartment in the base.

4. Connect the telephone line cord into the phone jack on the bottom of the unit. Your unit
    also comes equipped with a desk-mount support that allows for easier viewing of the
    Caller ID data by tilting the unit at an angle. To install the support: a. Locate the two slots
    on the bottom of the unit.
b. Connect the desk-mount support by inserting the two locking tabs into the slots and
    sliding the support back until it is securely in place.
5. *The LCD shows 'ENTER LANGUAGE' followed by a choice of 3 languages. The 'ENG' is
    blinking. Press [(] and [(] to select 'ENG', ESP' or 'FRA'.
    *The LCD shows 'ENTER AREA CODE'. Enter the 3-digit area code then press [DELETE]
    to confirm.
    *The LCD shows 'ENTER TIME DATE'. Enter the hour and minute digits, then press
    [DELETE] to confirm.
    *The LCD shows 'ENTER 1:AM 1:PM'. Press [1] or [2] to select AM or PM.
    *The LCD shows "0 CALL 0 NEW' which means both the Total Call and New Call counters
    are at zero.

6. After the Caller ID setup has been completed, connect the telephone line cord into the
    wall jack.


Digital Answering System Operation

Recording Your Outgoing Message
1. Press and hold down [GREETING].
2. When the unit beeps and the MESSAGE LED begins flashing, speak clearly towards the
    built-in microphone on the base; you have up to 30 seconds.
3. When finished, release button. Your unit will play back your announcement and reset to
    answer incoming calls.
4. Adjust volume control on the side of the unit to set the speaker to the desired level.

To Set Voice Time/Day Stamp
The unit records the time and day at the end of each message. To set the Voice Time/Day Stamp:
1. Press and hold [SKIP]. The unit will scroll through the days of the week starting with
    "Sunday". Release [SKIP] when you hear the correct day.
2. Press [REPEAT]. The unit will say "Twelve".
3. Press [SKIP] until you hear the correct hour.
4. Press [REPEAT]. The unit will say "00" minutes (sounds like "oh").
5. Press [SKIP] until you hear the correct minutes.
6. Press [REPEAT]. The unit will say "AM."
7. Press [SKIP] to change to "PM" and press [SKIP] again to change back to "AM".
8. Press [REPEAT}. You will hear the day and time you have set.

Note: If you stop before finishing the above steps, or if you pause for more than 8 seconds between steps, the time set function will stop. You should then begin the Voice Time/Day Stamp procedure from the beginning.

To Play Back Your Messages
1. When the message indicator flashes, you have received messages.
2. To hear your messages, press and release [PLAY]. Your unit will automatically reset after
    messages are played.

To Erase Your Messages
During playback, you can selectively erase your messages by tapping [ERASE] once. To erase all messages, press and hold [ERASE] until you hear a beep after all messages are played.


IN CASE OF POWER FAILURE OR IF ANSWERING SYSTEM IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY
If a power failure occurs or the plug comes out of the wall, your unit will shut down until the power is restored. Occasionally outside factors, such as power surges, may adversely affect the unit. If the unit is not operating properly, try these steps:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet and the telephone
line from the modular wall jack.
2. Unscrew the battery door and remove the 9-volt battery.
3. Plug AC adapter back into power outlet.
4. Install a new 9-volt battery, then replace the battery cover.
5. Set up Caller ID completely
6. Plug telephone line into wall jack.
7. Record a new outgoing announcement.
    * For questions about remotely retrieving messages, refer to the Owner's Manual.

Indicator Status: Message indicator flashes to indicate messages were received.
Reason: Messages have been received.
Action: Press [PLAY] to hear your message.

Indicator Status: Message indicator is lit solid.
Reason: System is in Answer Mode.
Action: No Action required. Unit is ready to receive calls.
